Growing a coconut palm

The drupes have sprouted so we've put them into pots to grow into palm trees. Coconut trees can grow for eighty years and produce 60-80 mature coconuts per year. All parts of the coconut tree are useful so it is no wonder it is called the "tree of life ".

Cairns Coconut Museum is still scouring the tropics to buy the very best coconut products. All claims by manufacturers are carefully checked to make sure their products are produced as sustainably as possible. Fair trade is also an important criterion to us so many of our producers are family-run companies who pay fair prices to the coconut growers. Manufacturing processes must be minimal, packaging must be appropriate and the food miles as low as possible. Quality and taste are also important.
